For a while, I tried to only read one book at a time, thinking that my desire to read the next book would motivate me to actually finish a book.
It didn't work.
But I'm not too discouraged, because apparently smart people read more than one book at a time! At least the smart people I listen to on podcasts say so;) (Listen to Tsh Oxenreider talk about reading here and Phylicia Masonheimer talk about reading here)
SO, I am guiltlessly embracing all the books I have cracked open and admit that I can't read one book at a time. Truly, how could I? I'm not going to always be in the mood for something deep and spiritual, but I also need more than a fiction some mornings.
Without further ado, here are the books I'm reading, have read, and want to read!
(Books that are on sale, too!!!)
(Me trying to read & nurse Jonah at the same time, lol!)
What I've Read:
The Couple Next Door: A Novel by Shari Lapena: Possibly recommend. Couldn't put it down! But it's a little too intense for me... skipped over a few parts.
The Polygamist's Daughter: A Memoir by Anna LeBaron
(audio): Definitely recommend. GREAT book. True story, narrated by the author. Heartbreaking and real and lots to think about.
The Girl With All the Gifts
by M.R. Carey (audio): Definitely recommend (unless you are sensitive to the F-word). This book was fascinating. A zombie book like none other! (And I hate zombies!). I might even listen to this one again.
The Circle Series by Ted Dekker
(audio): Definitely recommend. Ted Dekker's most popular series. Jon and I have been listening to the audio books for over a year! Finally got through, and wow, was it worth it! Definitely better as an audio book, in my opinion.
At Home in the World: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globe
by Tsh Oxenreider (audio): Definitely recommend. A beautiful book! So inspirational. I listened to it while I was in labor, and then again while I nursed Jonah. And I just let Tsh's stories transport me around the world!
Uncommon Type: Some Stories
by Tom Hanks (audio): Recommend. Really great short stories. Narrated by Tom Hanks himself! Loved hearing him read them. Both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
What I'm reading:
Glory in the Ordinary: Why Your Work in the Home Matters to God by Courtney Reissig: Recommend. So far so great! Only two chapters left in this read. What I've tried:
The Goldfinch: A Novel (Pulitzer Prize for Fiction)What I'm coming back to:
The Good Girl's Guide to Great Sex: (And You Thought Bad Girls Have All the Fun)Fascinating Womanhood by Helen Andelin: Recommend. Great read so far. It's an older book, but still applicable advice on femininity.
What I want to read:
Unseen: The Gift of Being Hidden in a World That Loves to Be NoticedReading People: How Seeing the World through the Lens of Personality Changes Everything
Wonder
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. Because I want to see the movie!
I've read some really great books this last year! Hopefully I've given ya'll a few ideas for a few new reads... what are ya'll's recommendations for new reads?
