I trip over my words a lot, and it's embarrassing.
Maybe that's why I prefer writing.
Maybe that's why I'm such a lame conversationalist.
All that to say, it keeps me from being friendly a lot of times.
I've been working on that, and noticed something:
when you talk to people, they talk back.
And oftentimes, you learn something.
I was answering phones at work the other day, and was determined to stretch myself.
So when I answered a call, and the man said,
"How are you on this fine day?"
Instead of my usual:
"I'm doin' pretty good... and how 'bout yourself?"
And I got the most inspiring comment back:
"You know, I'm doing really good. Doing my best to enjoy life, and make it a good day."
He went on to say he wanted to speak to So-and-So in Such-and-Such department;
I transferred the call;
I hung up.
But I realized I had almost missed out on a conversation with a lovely person,
even if it was only a stranger on a faceless phone.
I don't want to miss out on little conversations.
I don't want to miss out on people.
I want to let them seep into my life,
and inspire me,
and maybe I can seep into their's, too.
What little things have you been soakin' up this past week?
p.s. Happy February!!
