Don't Miss Little Things

dark chocolate coffee // polka dot socks // blues // fingers // smiles // coziness // cracks in perfection
As extroverted as I am, I'm pretty shy.
I trip over my words a lot, and it's embarrassing.
Maybe that's why I prefer writing.
Maybe that's why I'm such a lame conversationalist.

All that to say, it keeps me from being friendly a lot of times.
I've been working on that, and noticed something:

when you talk to people, they talk back.
And oftentimes, you learn something.

I was answering phones at work the other day, and was determined to stretch myself.
So when I answered a call, and the man said,

"How are you on this fine day?"

Instead of my usual:

"I'm fine,"

I responded:

"I'm doin' pretty good... and how 'bout yourself?"

And I got the most inspiring comment back:

"You know, I'm doing really good. Doing my best to enjoy life, and make it a good day."

He went on to say he wanted to speak to So-and-So in Such-and-Such department;
I transferred the call;
I hung up.

But I realized I had almost missed out on a conversation with a lovely person,
even if it was only a stranger on a faceless phone.

I don't want to miss out on little conversations.
I don't want to miss out on people.
I want to let them seep into my life,
and inspire me,
and maybe I can seep into their's, too.

What little things have you been soakin' up this past week?

Love, Casey

  1. I love noticing the little things too :)

    I tooooooooooooooooooootally identify with you about tripping over words. I struggle sometimes with talking to people. Not that I'm afraid to or anything, sometimes I really want to talk to people. I just don't have words a lot of the times. Ack! I often answer phones at work too and I have actually gotten a lot of confidence talking to them. I try to be really friendly and ask questions and be honest about how I am too!

    1. Ahhhh, it's so good I'm not the only one!! It DOES get easier, but only if you keep practicing :/

    2. Answering phones at work is kind of the best way to practice! You HAVE to be friendly to them and they usually are friendly right back. But, if you do trip over a word (which I have, believe me), it's not such a huge deal cause you'll probably never see that person :P

      P.S. I tagged you :) http://agoodthinkingplace.blogspot.com/2013/02/tag.html
